Advanced Television: World Downhill Skateboarding Championship on Channel 4

Story from Advanced Television:

The World Downhill Skateboarding Championship (WDSC) has agreed a broadcast deal with Channel 4 in the UK. The WDSC is the premier international series for downhill skateboard and street luge racing, attracting the best male and female riders from around the world.

Starting immediately, Channel 4’s digital platforms are airing a 12-part series of 30-minute highlight shows, bringing the speed, skill, and adrenaline of elite downhill skateboarding to a mainstream British audience.

So far this season, events have taken place in Austria and Turkey, with competitors representing 21 countries at each stop. Races are contested as on closed mountain roads, with speeds regularly reaching up to 120km/h, demanding extreme precision, physical endurance and courage.

From July 4th-6th, Round 3 will see the inaugural event on the Isle of Man, home to the legendary TT races. The series has already built strong momentum in the digital space, with coverage on platforms such as DAZN, Extreme, Triller and Riding Zone TV (France). The new partnership with Channel 4 marks its first dedicated broadcast deal in the UK.

Selim Kemahli, Managing Director, Race Marketing & Management, said: “This new partnership with Channel 4 is a game changer for the sport in the UK market, providing a powerful platform to showcase our athletes and the unique spectacle of downhill skateboarding to a broader audience. We hope this is just the beginning of growing the visibility of the sport and attracting more partners that share our vision.”

With three more events scheduled for the 2025 season, the WDSC says it is actively seeking further broadcast partnerships and commercial sponsors to support the tour and help elevate the sport to the next level.
