Advanced Television: UKTV commissions Dom Chinea’s Cornish Workshop

Story from Advanced Television:

UKTV has announced the commission of new series, Dom Chinea’s Cornish Workshop (5 x60’), produced by Beagle Media, for factual channel U&Yesterday and free streaming service U.

Dom Chinea and his wife Maria (plus their dog Wendy) are moving to Cornwall, having bought an old, stone farmhouse, a two-acre field, including a large agricultural barn that Chinea is going to turn into his Cornish Workshop.

The series follows Chinea as he carves out a new life in the far west of Cornwall. He carries out automotive, engineering and build work, as well as helping neighbours and his new community with their projects. From buying and fixing an ancient four-wheel drive to enable year-round access to his new workshop, to helping his local church with their bells, to creating a bespoke ice cream vehicle for his neighbour, every episode packs big and little stories alongside the narrative of creating his new workshop from an ancient barn.

Throughout the series, Chinea enlists the aid of Sam Lovegrove (Shed and Buried) for general engineering assistance, plus a cast of charismatic, local trades people who collectively help Chinea to achieve his ambitious plans.

Chinea commented: “I’m so excited by the projects we’ve got going on. But on top of the engineering, I’ve also got to get my Cornish workshop built and weatherproof before the autumn storms hit. There’s a lot of pressure.”

Dom Chinea’s Cornish Workshop has been commissioned for UKTV by Kirsty Hanson, Senior Commissioning Editor, Factual and Factual Entertainment, with Helen Nightingale, Head of Factual and Factual Entertainment Commissioning, and ordered for U&YESTERDAY by Director of Programming, Factual & Factual Entertainment, Adam Collings and Director of Commissioning, Hilary Rosen. Executive Producer for Beagle Media is Jonney Steven.

UKTV’s Kirsty Hanson, Senior Commissioning Editor, Factual and Factual Entertainment, said: “TV audiences love Dom Chinea for his passion, expertise and relaxed manner and this series showcases local stories and characters, as Dom and his wife Maria make a life-changing move from Kent to Cornwall.”

Mike Cunliffe, Series Producer, Beagle Media, added: “Dom has moved to Cornwall with a huge desire to do what he does best: building, creating and finding interesting engineering to work on. And through all this he becomes part of the local community. He’s living the Cornish dream and we’re there to document it.”

Collings added: “We’re thrilled to bring Dom Chinea’s Cornish Workshop to U&Yesterday viewers. The series is perfect for anyone who’s ever loved building, fixing, or figuring out how things work – bringing real-world engineering to life – all set in the stunning backdrop of beautiful Cornwall.”

Dom Chinea’s Cornish Workshop is filming now and will air in the UK on U&Yesterday, and free streaming service U, in 2026.
