Daily Mail: Roman Kemp set to quit to Capital Breakfast after seven years

Story from Daily Mail:

Roman Kemp, is reportedly set to quit Capital FM radio, after seven years in favour of a full-time television career.

Roman, 30, who fronts the breakfast show alongside Chris Stark and Sian Welby was announced as the.

In addition to his radio career, Roman, 30, secured a highly sought-after role as a presenter on BBC's The One Show, where he joins forces with Alex Jones.

This announcement came earlier in the summer and marked a significant milestone in his expanding portfolio.

Now, there's speculation that he might be making a permanent switch from radio to television, despite his popularity on the morning show, where he boasts a close-knit circle of celebrity friends, including chart-toppers like Ed Sheeran and Lewis Capaldi.

According to an insider, Roman - the son of Spandau Ballet icon Martin Kemp - is currently weighing multiple substantial TV prospects and believes the next step would be to focus on these exciting opportunities.

While his departure has yet to be formally announced, a source told The Sun: 'Roman has loved his time at Capital FM and it has been a huge learning curve for him over the years. But he feels now is the right time to pass the baton to someone else.'

MailOnline have contacted Global Radio for comment.

Roman is no stranger to appearing on TV and has already appeared alongside his famous dad in their own breakfast show, Martin & Roman’s Weekend Best!, as well as Channel 4's Celebrity Gogglebox.

In 2019 he also came third in ITV's I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! and after his best friend and Capital Radio producer, Joe Lyons, tragically took his own life in 2020, Roman fronted a thought-provoking documentary for BBC Three, titled 'Roman Kemp: Our Silent Emergency.'

The radio host candidly shared his personal journey with mental health challenges and delved into the critical issue of male suicide.

In his book, 'Are You Really OK?,' Roman bravely disclosed a deeply personal admission, revealing that he once found himself on the brink of a devastating decision to end his own life.

This candid revelation stems from his unwavering commitment to sharing his ongoing battle with depression, spanning a challenging 15-year period.

Roman expressed that he was utterly caught off guard and emotionally devastated by the sudden loss of his close friend, whose passing left an indelible mark on his life.

He said: 'I’m still processing his death. Every day I step foot back in the Capital studios, I’m back in the worst situation I have ever lived in my life. I have flashbacks all the time.'

Now a campaigner for male mental health, Roman added: 'Per one suicide, 140 people are affected. Joe’s affected a lot of people. I’m sure he’ll be proud of what we’re doing but I still f***ing hate him for it.

'He was the furthest thing from a suicidal person. Some people don’t wear a mask, others do. The majority put a mask on and we don’t have a clue what’s going on.'

His close friend, singer and songwriter Ed Sheeran was one of the people Roman turned to when he needed help himself.

He shared: 'Ed told me there’s dirty water at the top and the more you let it flow it turns into clear water. Each time I speak about how I feel, the water gets clearer.'
