Broadcastnow: Liberty's Virgin takeover gets green-light

Story from Broadcastnow.co.uk.

Liberty Global’s $10.2bn acquisition of UK cable operator Virgin Media has been approved by European regulators.
The deal, which was struck in February, has won unconditional EU regulatory approval after the European body found that it had no competition concerns.

The approval was expected as Liberty Global currently does not operate any pay TV services in the UK.

The February agreement, which coincided with Virgin Media’s full-year results, values the UK cable operator at £10.2bn and will mean that John Malone’s Liberty Global now has 25m customers in 15 countries.

Liberty Global said that as part of the acquisition it would redomicile from Delaware to the UK and implement a European listing once the deal closed.
