TalkTalk has appointed James Smith as its new finance director following the collapse of talks with Virgin Media O2.Smith, who was previously head of finance at Capricorn Energy, is seen as a deals specialist, the Daily Telegraph said.Last July, it was reported Virgin Media O2 has placed an initial £3 billion offer for its rival following interest from other companies including Vodafone and Comcast-owned Sky.TalkTalk delisted from the stockmarket in 2020 after a sale to Toscafund.Chief executive Tristia Harrison said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming James’s expertise to the TalkTalk team. Our focus on full fibre is resolute and the country has never needed affordable, reliable connectivity more.Jonathan Kini, the company’s consumer and business-to-business chief, is also leaving. He’ll be replaced by Adam Dunlop, the current managing director of supply and partnerships.
