Broadband TV News: Live tennis ready to return to Sky

Story from Broadband TV News:

Sky is poised to again be the major broadcaster of tennis in the UK market.

The broadcaster is currently finalising an agreement with the ATP and WTA tours, representing the men’s and women’s tours, and is expected to take over coverage from Amazon Prime in the New Year.

Sky has already signed a five-year rights deal with the organisers of US Open tennis.

Amazon moved in after Sky dropped the rights to the US Open in 2016, before picking up the rights to the men’s and women’s tours.

However, it’s greatest ratings hit, Emma Raducanu’s historic US Open victory in 2021, only came about because it agreed to share coverage with Channel 4.

The Daily Telegraph reported Thursday that the ATP has been disappointed with ratings on the channel and hopes that Sky’s combination of linear broadcast and streaming will see audiences pick up.
