Broadband TV News: Euronews poised to make almost 200 redundancies

Story from Broadband TV News:

Euronews is to make close to 200 staff redundant as part of a major deployment of its journalists.

In a change to the model that has run since launch in 1993, Euronews is to sell its current headquarters in Lyon. Instead a new central newsroom will be set up in Brussels with six additional offices in Rome, Berlin, Lisbon, Madrid and London.

As part of the plan 198 of the 478 employees will lose their jobs. Redeployments of the existing staff will take place in the next 6 months.

Last July, Alpac Capital finalised the acquisition of a majority stake in Euronews following approval of the investment by the French Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Recovery.

At the time, the Potugese investment fund said it wanted to strengthen the European identity of the channel, in particular by deepening the dialogue with Members of the European Parliament and the European Commission in Brussels.
