The BBC Asian Network has reaffirmed its plans to reduce the amount of news and current affairs content it broadcasts.Following last November’s annual report on the BBC, the corporation outlined its strategy in its Annual Plan (2025/26), confirming changes to its news and current affairs output. This will involve a shift in programming, with new commissions replacing older formats to ensure the station continues to reflect the most pressing issues affecting British Asians. As part of these plans, the BBC has submitted a request to Ofcom to reduce the annual Operating Licence quota for news and current affairs to 675 hours.Additionally, the BBC is planning further changes to the BBC Asian Network, as part of its refocus to better serve younger audiences, particularly those aged 25-34.
