The Sun: Sky customers told to upgrade their box or miss out on major TV boost coming this summer

Story from The Sun:

Millions of Sky customers have been told to upgrade their boxes, or they'll miss out on a major TV boost arriving this summer.

The broadcaster will be launching Sky Sports+ in the coming months, which will air up to 100 sporting events at a time - 50 per cent more content than the standard channel.

Sky Sports+ will also host a raft of bonus content that is not currently shown on the linear channel, as well as exclusive access to Sky's sporting documentaries.

Sky Sports+ is available to customers with Sky Glass, Sky Stream and Sky Q packages.

However, the app relies on internet-based streaming, which means Sky+ customers will not be able to access all the bonus content, a Sky spokesperson told The Sun.

"Sky+ customers with a full Sky Sports subscription will receive the new Sky Sports+ linear channel but won’t have access to the live streams as Sky+ doesn’t have the capability," a spokesperson explained.

"But they can access the live streams through the Sky Sports app."

Sky+ customers are able to upgrade to Sky Q for free, where they will be able to access all the live streams on Sky Sports+.

Or, they can stay with their current package.

More Sky Sports+ highlights:
  • Four times as many matches from the EFL with all 72 teams featured more than 20 times per season.
  • Every match from the men's Super League.
  • Coverage from the ATP & WTA Tours and US Open Tennis.
  • PGA Tour golf and more.
  • Exclusive access to Sky's great sports documentaries.
  • Sky Sports+ offers the capability to show up to 100 events concurrently.
  • Customers can enjoy over 50 per cent more live sport this year.
  • All of this comes at no extra cost.

When does Sky Sports+ launch?

The service launches officially in August 2024.

Although, Sky has not yet revealed a specific date.

Where can I watch Sky Sports+?

  • The app will be integrated into Sky's existing platforms as well as Sky-owned streaming service NOW TV.
  • Virgin Media TV customers who subscribe to Sky Sports will have access to Sky Sports+ when it launches in August.
  • It will be found on both the Virgin Media 360 box and Virgin Media Stream.
  • However, Virgin Media’s platforms will only offer live content, which means some of the on-demand Sports+ content may not be accessible, according to CordBusters.
  • Virgin Media says it will let customers know close to the launch date whether the app will be available on the company's older telly boxes.
  • Customers of EE TV - formerly known as BT TV - can stream Sky Sports+ via a NOW Sports subscription on both the EE TV 4K Pro Box, and the new custom Apple TV box.
  • A NOW Sports subscription is included on EE TV’s Big Sport and Full Works plans.
