Rest is Politics hosts Rory Stewart and Alastair Campbell are already going to be part of Channel 4’s general election night coverage and the deal deepens the relationship.The first episode will go out on Channel 4 and Channel 4 streaming next Wednesday late at night, with subsequent episodes being broadcast each Tuesday up until the week of election day, which takes place on July 4. On that night, Campbell and Stewart are part of a team featuring the likes of Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Emily Maitlis and Cathy Newman. Clare Balding – who had previously been announced as part of the line-up – will not be able to join the studio team due to Wimbledon commitments, and her replacement will be announced in due course."The success and continuing growth of The Rest Is Politics podcast has shown there is a huge appetite for serious sensible debate and on what promises to be one of the most important and exciting election nights in many a year,” said Campbell. “I am delighted that Rory Stewart and I will be part of Channel 4’s coverage.”Presented by the former Conservative lawmaker and former Labour spin doctor, The Rest is Politics, which is produced by Gary Lineker and Tony Pastor’s Goalhanger, has been a huge hit in the UK podcasting world, and is one of a series of Goalhanger podcasts that includes The Rest is History, The Rest is Football and The Rest is Entertainment.
