Amazon Prime will stop broadcasting coverage of international tennis tournaments in the UK after 2023.Earlier this year, Sky Sports regained the rights to cover the US Open, which has discouraged the streamer from making a bid for the men’s and women’s professional circuits.Amazon covered Emma Raducanu’s 2021 US Open win, but sublicensed the rights to Channel 4.The Times, which first reported the story, said the rights to both tours are worth in excess of £15 million a year.Sky, which had covered the ATP tour before Amazon gained its interest could potentially establish a dedicated channel for tennis, as is already the case for cricket and gold. The package includes the finals of both tours, the Masters 1000 series tournaments in Indian Wells, Miami and Madrid.Having started with tennis, Amazon has turned its attention to football and rugby, with coverage of UEFA Champions League and this week it has another round of Premier League games. Rugby union’s Autumn Nations Series is also a part of Amazon’s portfolio.Grand Slam events are marketed separately from the Tour, the BBC has the rights to Wimbledon and Eurosport, another potential bidder, the French Open.
