Daily Record: Rangers land extra Sky Sports fixture as club and broadcaster unlock punter perks with PPV boost

Story from Daily Record:

Rangers have struck deal with Sky Sports that will allow the SPFL broadcaster to show an extra Scottish Premiership game live from Ibrox this season – with the club able to show two more home games on pay per view in return.

The agreement is outside of the SPFL’s own £30m-a-season deal with Sky Sports which runs until 2029 and only allows the broadcasters to send the TV cameras to each top flight stadium a maximum of four times during each campaign. Sky beamed the first Old Firm game of the season live from Ibrox back in September and will be back in Govan for the second visit of the Celtic in April.

They will also show Aberdeen’s trip to Ibrox next month but they will now have the option of TWO more games at Ibrox - taking the total to five and one more than the rest of the top flight grounds. And, according to the Rangers Review, as part of the deal, brokered by Rangers chief executive James Bisgrove, commercial director Karim Virani and Sky Sports chiefs, with the blessing of the SPFL, the Ibrox club can show two more home games on PPV.

Currently, clubs can only show five home matches on PPV to British viewers - they can show all games to the rest of the world - but that will be increased to seven, allowing them to generate more revenue and also help fans with at least two more games set to be switched from the traditional 3pm Saturday kick off due to their involvement in the Europa League knockout stage.
