The new deal with TalkTV, starting on 1st January 2023, follows an experiment in the autumn which saw local channels simulcasting TalkTV’s coverage in the aftermath of the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
But it means the end of a five year term deal with CBS Reality that has given local TV viewers access to Judge Judy and other crime reality shows.
The changes affect the following local TV channels operated by Montgomery Media’s Local TV Limited on Virgin Channel 159:
- Local TV Birmingham
- Local TV Bristol
- Local TV Leeds
- Local TV Liverpool
- Local TV Teesside
- Local TV Tyne & Wear
- Local TV Cardiff
- Local TV North Wales
The local channels will continue to insert their local news magazine programmes at various points of the day. This includes two hours at Breakfast (6-8am) and an hour at lunchtime (1pm) making it the 24 hour news channel in all but name.
The two hour evening news block, currently between 6pm and 8pm will be broken in to two sections. From 2023, local news will air at 6pm for an hour and again at 9pm.
For local channels serving Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Leeds, Liverpool, Newcastle upon Tyne, North Wales and Teesside here is a weekday lineup:
- 6am Local news
- 8am TalkTV
- 1pm Local news
- 2pm TalkTV
- 6pm Local news
