Viaplay Sports UK Crisis - Daily Record: Degaint Viaplay insist Scottish football show will go on

Story from Daily Record:

Viaplay have defiantly outlined their Scottish football schedule for the next three months despite reports that the company was on the verge of financial collapse.

Stories in the American media this week claimed that the broadcaster was set to pull out of the UK in a desperate bid to cut costs. That promoted fears of a League Cup and Scotland national team blackout given the company sponsor and show the competition live, whilst also exclusively screening Scotland’s Euro 2024 qualifiers.

But ahead of Saturday evening’s group stage clash between Motherwell and Queen’s Park at Fir Park, commentator Rory Hamilton, flanked by pundit Michael Stewart, moved to allay fears that there would be a lack of games on the box as he set forth the broadcast schedule until the international break in the middle of October. He said: “Despite what you may have heard or seen, Viaplay will continue to broadcast top class content.

"On Tuesday, we’re at Falkirk for the visit of Dundee United at 7.30. On Sunday July 30, we round off the Viaplay Cup group stages as Dundee host Inverness Caledonian Thistle from 2.45. From next month, we’ll have action from the second round of the Viaplay cup on August 19 and 20.

“In September, it’s the turn of the Euro 2024 qualifiers. Huge games for Steve Clarke’s side. First up, they travel to Cyprus on September 8 from 7.45. Then it’s off to Seville to face Spain on October 12, again a 7.45 kick-off. The glamour friendly away to France is on October 17 and it’s a 7.45 kick-off for that one.”
