Daily Mail: How TNT Sports stacks up against Sky and The BBC

Story from Daily Mail:

This season, TNT Sports will be the new kids on the block in the world of football, replacing BT Sports.

The creation of a new brand follows last year's acquisition of BT Sport by Warner Bros. Discovery, who also own Eurosport, in a deal worth up to £650million.

TNT Sports have gone strong ahead of the new season with an all-female hosting team, while also keeping on the biggest pundits from BT Sports.

Sky Sports meanwhile have seen some changes over the summer with some big departures.

Mail Sport takes a look at how TNT Sport stacks up in comparison to Sky Sports and even The BBC ahead of the new season.

TNT Sports:

Laura Woods was confirmed as the centrepiece of TNT Sports' launch after the broadcaster confirmed their all-female line up of football presenters ahead of next season.

The former talkSPORT and Sky Sports personality will be joined by Reshmin Chowdhury and Lynsey Hipgrave as hosts for the new season - with BT Sports frontman Jake Humphrey no longer in the fold. 8-Jules Breach meanwhile has replaced BT Sports' Des Kelly as touchline reporter.

Rio Ferdinand, Peter Crouch and Joe Cole were listed as the headline names to share their insight and opinions with TNT Sports next season.

They will be joined by a whole host of football experts who will make more sporadic appearances throughout the 2023-24 season.

The likes of Owen Hargreaves, Steve McManaman, Joleon Lescott, Michael Owen and Paul Scholes were often seen on European nights and games where their former clubs were involved - so it would be no surprise to see them used in a similar role this season.

Rachel Brown-Finnis and Robbie Savage were also named in TNT Sports' launch after both previously working for BT Sports.

TNT Sports' other big addition is Ally McCoist, who follows Woods from talkSPORT. While Darren Fletcher and Adam Summerton will continue as the broadcaster’s main commentators.

BT Sport's coverage left viewers feeling short-changed after the Champions League final with Mario Balotelli's appearance falling flat and a constant update of Joleon Lescott's nerves about his former side Man City's chances of completing the Treble.

Viewers will be hopeful that TNT Sports takes their coverage a step in the right direction.

SKY SPORTS:

David Jones continues as Sky Sports' main presenter - a role that he has held since replacing Ed Chamberlin back in August 2016.

He mainly presents Sky Sports' biggest live football shows Super Sunday and Monday Night Football.

Kelly Cates also hosts their coverage, predominantly seen for Sky Sports' coverage of Friday night games as well as the late kick-off on Saturday.

There is little change expected in terms of the punditry team on Sky Sports with Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher the main stars.

While the likes of Roy Keane, Jamie Redknapp and Micah Richards will also continue to be regularly used.

A whole host of other pundits are expected to be used with Karen Carney, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Michael Dawson often seen in the studio.

Sky is famous for its spats between pundits like Keane, Carragher and Neville however their fierce debates won't include Graeme Souness who left Sky Sports during the final weeks of last season.

Legendary commentator Martin Tyler also left the broadcaster at the end of the campaign while Geoff Shreeves rejected a pay cut, so he too will not be part of Sky Sports' coverage this season.

Peter Drury will become Sky Sports' new voice of the Premier League after leaving US broadcaster NBC.

BBC SPORT:

Gary Lineker continues as BBC's main host for their Match of the Day programme this season.

The 62-year-old was made to 'step back' from the broadcasting corporations infamous football show after breaching the BBC's 'social media guidelines' having previously compared the UK's immigration policy to Nazi Germany.

After one show where there was no hosts, pundits or interviews after colleagues backed Lineker, he quickly returned to television and has continued as normal.

Alex Scott, who hosts Football Focus, also does hosting duties along with the likes of relief hosts Mark Chapman, Gabby Logan and Kelly Somers.

Analysis is regularly provided by two other former England strikers in Alan Shearer and Ian Wright.

Micah Richards ties in his work on Sky Sports with appearances on Match of the Day, also appearing with Shearer and Lineker on their podcast.

The likes of One Show host Jermaine Jenas, Danny Murphy, Martin Keown, Dion Dublin and Chris Sutton also provide regular analysis across the BBC's football shows.

Commentary is provided by Guy Mowbray, Steve Wilson, Steve Bower, Simon Brotherton, Jonathan Pierce and Conor McNamara.
