Broadband TV News: Sky to cut hundreds of UK jobs

Story from Broadband TV News:

Sky is about to embark on restructuring that will result in the loss of hundreds of jobs across the UK.

According to a report in the Financial Times, the move forms part of a strategic shift from satellite broadcasting to internet-delivered TV.

It adds that last week Sky informed many of the staff affected by the cuts, which will include some employed through third party suppliers including around 200 in Northern Ireland.

Significantly, the cuts will not be as extensive as those planned by competitors such as BT and Vodafone.

They will also be concentrated in more traditional areas of Sky’s business.

In addition, Sky plans to redeploy or hire new staff in growing areas of its business including Studios Elstree, which is due to open later this year and create around 2,000 jobs.

Sky has been part of Comcast since 2018.
