Digital TV Europe: HBO Max comes back to AT&T

Story from Digital TV Europe:

Hot off the news that it is to launch a combined streaming offer in 2023, Warner Bros. Discovery has announced an agreement with US telco AT&T to offer its customers access to HBO Max.

AT&T had been the owner of HBO Max until earlier this year, when it completed the US$43 billion sale of WarnerMedia to Discovery in April. In the interim period, AT&T removed HBO Max as a perk of its most-expensive unlimited mobile plan.

However, customers will regain access to the streamer – though it remains unclear as to exactly when, nor what will happen in 12 months when HBO Max is replaced by the proposed combined entity of it and discovery+.

Scott Miller, EVP, Distribution, Warner Bros. Discovery, said: “AT&T continues to be an important partner and we are thrilled that HBO Max will continue to be part of AT&T internet and mobility plans. It has always been our goal to deliver an unparalleled entertainment experience with as many subscribers as possible and the return of HBO Max to AT&T plans ensures that even more people will have access to HBO Max’s world-class and award-winning content.”

Jenifer Robertson, EVP and general manager – Mass Markets, AT&T Inc. added: “HBO Max is a great product that is popular with our customers, and we like the fact that we’re viewed as being the place to come to get it. This adjusted agreement represents an important step in positioning both AT&T and Warner Bros. Discovery for continued success.”
