Sky is to launch its seventh sports channel, billed as a home for European football.
Sky Sports 5 will feature coverage of around 600 live European football matches as the pay-TV operator beefs up its proposition to help it compete with rivals including BT.
The channel will include games from the European qualifiers for the UEFA Euro 2016 tournament, UEFA Champions League, Spanish league La Liga, the Coppa Italia and Copa del Rey.
As part of the launch, Sky has struck a four-year deal to offer exclusive live coverage of Holland’s top division Eredivisie, which includes teams such as Ajax, Feyenoord and PSV Eindhoven.
Sky Sports 5 will launch on 12 August with David Beckham signed to front a nationwide marketing campaign to promote the network.
