Broadcast: NBCU to close DivaTV

Here is update on the close of DivaTV from last week.

As reported by Broadcast.

NBC Universal is to close DivaTV, the UK home of The Oprah Winfrey Show and Queer Eye For A Straight Guy, as it shifts its focus onto The Style Network.

In the move, which only affects the UK market, NBC will rationalise its channel offering following its March acquisition by Comcast, which gave it control over lifestyle channels E! and Style in the UK.

DivaTV, which airs in Sky slot 269 (and Virgin slot 164), will close on 14 February, with its most popular programmes shifting to Style.

NBC will now support five channels comprising Style, E!, Universal Channel, Syfy and Movies24.

A spokesperson for Universal Networks International said the move would result in a sharper focus: “DivaTV and Style are very similarly positioned in the UK market, and we will concentrate on engaging viewers with five channel brands in the UK”

No news on if NBCU will give Virgin Media the rights to Style from that date.
