Broadband TV News: Lionsgate confirms UK departure date

Lionsgate has confirmed when it will pull its streaming service from the UK as part of its withdrawal from international markets.

The company has told subscribers that it will be able to steam content on its own platform until February 29 and beyond that on Amazon Prime Video. Lionsgate+ is also available on Sky through its Sky Q and Sky Stream products.

Last November the former StarzPlay said it would pull out of the UK and Australia and instead concentrate on a number of smaller markets. Following an announcement the previous summer, it had been expected that the UK, along with the United States and Canada, would remain a core territory.

10% of the staff will be are being laid off as part of a process that will see Starz separated from the film studio following the purchase of eOne and floated as two publicly traded entities.
