The Sun: Andy Walker in major career twist as Sky Sports commentator leaves Scottish football coverage

Story from The Sun:

Andy Walker has revealed he will no longer be part of Sky Sports' Scottish football coverage.

The former Celtic striker has been a regular commentator for the broadcaster for almost a decade.

He filled the chair alongside lead man Ian Crocker as another former Hoops star, Davie Provan, was phased out by Sky bosses.

Walker has courted controversy on a few occasions in his punditry career, most notably when Scott Brown called him a "poor man's Gary Neville" following criticism of Celtic under Ronny Deila, and this year when Sky were forced to apologise after the commentator claimed to hear a VAR official offering a referee an "easy way out" with regards to an offside decision.

The Scottish Cup Final last weekend, where Celtic beat Inverness 3-1, turned out to be his last match in Scottish football, he admitted.

He isn't quitting Sky for good though, as he said he hopes to still cover their English games.

Walker told the Go Radio Football Show: "I did sign off last night. That will be my last Sky game in Scotland.

"I’m hoping to retain all the English games that I do.

"But I’ve been there for 14 years and I’ve really enjoyed it. I know we get a bit of stick here and there but I think it’s a truly talented and hard-working team in Scotland.

"And I think whoever gets the gig, I hope they enjoy it as much as I have because it’s been an absolute blast. I’ve really loved it."

Walker's replacement for 2023/24 is understood to be Celtic favourite Chris Sutton.

With Rangers legend Ally McCoist appearing on Sky more this season, the broadcaster has jumped at the chance to sign up his punditry sparring partner.

Sutton will also team up with another former Gers striker in Kris Boyd, who regularly does studio analysis on Scottish matches as well as reporting on Soccer Saturday.

James McFadden will provide somewhat neutral ground and Eilidh Barbour is expected to continue in her role as the main presenter for Sky's team north of the border.

Meanwhile, plans for a stunning redevelopment of Hampden have emerged - with the new stadium potentially set for a retractable roof and 'Kop-style' ends.
