Daily Express: Alex Jones takes swipe at BBC pay as she details The One Show schedule shake-up

Story from Daily Express:

Alex Jones and Roman Kemp poked fun at their The One Show pay when discussing the Eurovision Song Contest, which is being held in Liverpool next month.

The BBC presenters explained they would be hosting a The One Show special in order to bring the latest Eurovision coverage to viewers.

The One Show, which is usually broadcast between Monday and Friday, will also be shown on Saturday, May 13.

However, Alex couldn't resist taking a cheeky swipe at her pay when she discussed the schedule shake-up with Roman.

When her co-star questioned whether Alex would be getting double pay for working the Saturday, she joked: "Yeah, £4."

Roman began: "We're starting the show with a big Eurovision announcement."

Alex continued: "Today the BBC has revealed its plans and that includes the news that The One Show is coming live from Liverpool.

"We're very excited. We're going to be the official opening act right at the heart of the action guiding you through the whole contest.

"We'll be there from the Tuesday, May 9, for the semi-finals and then we'll be getting the party started before the final on Saturday May, 13."

"This is mega," Alex said before adding: "There will be a very special countdown to Eurovision with The One Show at 7.30pm."

"On a Saturday," Alex said in shock over the schedule shake-up as Roman weighed in: "They are going to have to double your pay."

"It sounds amazing," the Capital FM host said as Alex joked about her pay: "£4."

Roman laughed before swiftly moving on to the next segment which was broadcast from Liverpool.

He said: "That sounds so amazing. The Eurovision team is in Liverpool now and we can go live to Eurovision mega fan, and one of the commentators."

"Mel Giedroyc, what is the latest?" Roman asked as the camera panned to the former Bake Off host.

Mel appeared via video link with Rylan Clark and Scott Mills, who shared their excitement about Eurovision 2023.

Rylan admitted he was happy to be "back with my Eurovision husband", telling Mel he was glad Liverpool was hosting on behalf of Ukraine.

The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
