The interim chairman of Notts TV has released a statement as the channel confirmed it will be closing down in just a few months. Nottingham Trent University (NTU), the parent company of the independent channel, has confirmed in an internal email that there will not be an application to renew Notts TV's Ofcom licence. The announcement was made on Monday, February 17, as NTU, which funds the channel almost entirely, said it would not be seeking to renew the licence when it expires in November. The university said it hoped "other organisations will step forward to submit proposals to Ofcom to continue focused local broadcasting" and "pick up the baton" from Notts TV and the university itself.A statement on behalf of Mike Sassi, interim chairman of Notts TV and former editor of the Nottingham Post, has now been released, addressing the channel's pride following a decade in the journalism industry. It reads: "We're incredibly proud of everything Notts TV has achieved over the last decade."We've broadcast more than 2,500 live news programmes featuring countless local stories, welcomed more than 5,000 Nottinghamshire people into the studio as guests, and our reporters have won national awards for their journalism. We've also helped to launch hundreds of careers in media across Britain and beyond with our industry training, and held power to account by hosting the BBC Local Democracy Reporting Service."We look forward to bringing you the best of what we do over the next few months, and Notts TV would like to thank everyone who has supported us over the years." The channel's licence was first granted in 2014 along with more than 30 other local TV channels across the country. It recently held an anniversary celebration to mark a decade of broadcasting, featuring special guests like Vicky McClure.
