Broadband TV News: BBC Chair to appear before DCMS Committee

Story from Broadband TV News:

The Commons DCMS Committee has announced plans to question BBC Chair Richard Sharp following media reports about his appointment.

The Sunday Times alleged that in late 2020 Mr Sharp introduced multimillionaire Canadian businessman Sam Blyth, who had proposed to act as the then prime minister Boris Johnson’s guarantor for an £800,000 credit facility, to the cabinet secretary.

Mr Sharp denies any involvement in the loan arrangements.

A friend of the former prime minister, Mr Sharp appeared before the Committee in January 2021 for a pre-appointment hearing in which he faced questions about his political independence and suitability for the role. The Committee subsequently approved his appointment.

He’ll appear before the Committee on Tuesday 7th February.
