In another major shake-up for the UK's football right market, Channel 4 has won the broadcast rights to a number of the England men’s team’s forthcoming matches.The broadcaster has secured the rights to England’s matches in the UEFA Nations League, qualifying matches for UEFA Euro 2024 and international friendlies.In total, Channel 4 will air 20 live England matches between 2022 and 2024.It will be the first time England’s UEFA Nations League games will be available on free to air television.Six England games will be shown live on Channel 4 this year, starting with the match against Hungary on 4th June, followed by the team’s away game against Germany on 7th June.Channel 4’s chief content officer Ian Katz said: “After bringing some of the biggest sporting moments of last year to the nation, I’m delighted that Channel 4 will be airing so many mouth-watering England matches on free to air television.“This deal shows Channel 4 can compete for some of the biggest properties in sport and will bring substantial new audiences to our award-winning slate of original programming.”The deal follows the news earlier this week that new streaming service Viaplay UK has secured the rights to at least 40 matches featuring the Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish men’s national football teams.
