Sunday Express: Virgin Media UK viewers lose popular TV channel this week

Story from Sunday Express:

Virgin Media UK viewers only have a few days left to access a world-famous channel.
After August 31, CNN
International - the iconic American news channel - will no longer be available on Virgin Media UK.

CNN International - whose popular programming includes Wolf Blitzer's The Situation Room and the late great Anthony Bourdain's Parts Unknown - will still be viewable on Sky TV.

However, from September 1 CNN International will no longer be available via Virgin Media, BT and Freesat.

Virgin Media viewers who tuned in to CNN International this week have been receiving a message informing them the channel will no longer be available soon.

The message on screen says: "HEADS UP! This channel will no longer be available on Virgin Media after 31st August 2021."

On the Virgin Media Community website customers have been taking to the forums to express their surprise at the news.

One Virgin Media viewer wrote: "I just saw a small note on the bottom of my TV screen early this morning that, as of August 31, CNN International will no longer be available on Virgin. I depend on CNN International. Is it available if we pay extra for it?"

While another posted: "Very disappointed to see CNN International going. It’s the only US news channel we get. Been very informative to see the Americans view on Afghanistan".

And one added: "With what's going on in the world plus upcoming American mid-term elections on the horizon, why can't they just give some options and let us keep the CNN we signed on for? I have my TV tuned to CNN International more than any other channel."

CNN Live service, which first became available in June, offers access to CNN's live programming ad-free for £1.99 a month - or £19.90 a year.

Speaking about the removal of CNN International from Virgin Media, a spokesperson for the broadcasting giant told Express.co.uk: "Due to WarnerMedia’s plans to move to a subscription model for the CNN International news channel, it will no longer be available on Virgin TV after 31 August. Customers can still watch and catch up on the latest news on major news channels such as BBC News, Sky News, Bloomberg and many others."

And in a statement CNN International said: "As of 1 September, CNN International will be available to UK viewers via a livestream at CNN.com as well as on Sky TV."
