Sky Sports: Sky Sports creates dedicated Players Championship channel for 2017

Story from Sky Sports:

Sky Sports is creating a brand new channel for one of the biggest events in the golf calendar as the Players Championship is set for dedicated shows and 45 hours of live coverage for the first time.

'Sky Sports THE PLAYERS' will launch on Monday, May 8, with behind-the-scenes features and documentaries, as well as a special preview show on Wednesday, May 10 'Live at the Players'.

The stellar tournament that sees the top players in the world competing for the trophy has been played at the famous TPC Sawgrass course in Florida since 1982.

Past winners include Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Sergio Garcia and the iconic 17th par-3 island green has created numerous moments of drama over the years.

Sky Sports will also launch its new Sky Zone studio on the range at the tournament, giving viewers a unique insight into players' warm-ups, swings and practice techniques.

Award-winning coverage will come from David Livingstone, Butch Harmon, Paul McGinley and Rich Beem, who'll be on hand to dissect all of the action from one of golf's most exciting courses.

Sky Sports digital and social teams will also be on-site to create additional content for those watching online and on the go, while Sky Sports News HQ will have all the latest news from the unofficial fifth major.

Sky Sports Head of Golf Jason Wessely said: "Will Sergio kick-on from his Masters triumph, Dustin Johnson his sensational pre-injury form, or will the big three of Spieth, McIlroy and Day return to the winner's circle?

"The Players has the look and feel of a Major, with the world's best taking on one of golf's most spectacular courses. We're incredibly excited to give the tournament the Sky Sports treatment, including a variety of new features to keep fans on top of the action."

The Players Championship is part of a year of golf on Sky Sports that includes The Open and US Open, every PGA and European Tour event including the new Rolex Series, all five women's Majors and the Solheim Cup.

NOTE: Sky Sports 4 will be back on May 15th.
