Confirmed: Virgin Media axe Smallworld Fibre brand

Information from Virgin Media web site:

Virgin Media's services have become available to 44,000 new homes in North West England and South West Scotland for the first time, providing internet access at speeds up to 152Mb or eleven times faster than Sky or BT’s typical services.

Having fully incorporated Smallworld Fibre’s local network into its national infrastructure, which passes over half of all UK homes, households in Cumbria, Lancashire and Ayrshire can now access Virgin Media’s superfast connectivity, and unrivalled TiVo® entertainment service.

Customers previously using Smallworld Fibre services in towns including Irvine, Carlisle, Lancaster and Morecambe were the first in their areas to be connected to Virgin Media’s services.

Paul Buttery, Virgin Media’s chief customer technology & networks officer said: “We’re delighted that Smallworld has joined our network, bringing the benefits of superfast connectivity to more homes. We’ve received warm welcomes from each new town we’ve moved into and believe that bringing faster broadband can create more opportunities for local people and support economic growth.”
