UPDATED - Daily Mail: Virgin Media teams up with Netflix

Story from Daily Mail:

The battle for digital subscribers has intensified as Virgin Media teamed up with rival Netflix to offer a raft of new television series and movies at a cost.
Existing Virgin Media customers will be able to subscribe to Netflix through their set top box for £5.99 a month and gain access to films and series such as House Of Cards, Breaking Bad and Arrested Development.

It will start as a trial for 40,000 existing Virgin Media customers with a view to being rolled out if successful.

Rivals BSkyB and BT have been racing to buy up rights to movies and sports in a race to attract more customers or poach them from each other.

Dana Strong, chief operating officer at Virgin Media, said: ‘Netflix will be rolled out to all Virgin Media TiVo customers following the successful completion of the pilot later this year.’
UPDATED: Virgin Media has confirmed that the Netflix trial for TiVo will be in the following areas:

  • Peterborough
  • Crawley
  • Andover
  • Londonderry
  • Swindon

Media Boy HQ has seen info that Virgin Media hope to launch Netflix in all areas by early November.
