Broadcast: Virgin Media strikes Al Jazeera deal

''Virgin Media has struck its first carriage deal with Al Jazeera in a move which will see two of its channels launch on the service.
The agreement will see news channels Al Jazeera English and Al Jazeera Arabic made available to subscribers of the pay TV operator’s M+ package.

The English-language news service will form part of Virgin’s News channel genre, while the Arabic channel, which is the first Arabic channel on the service, will be in its International line-up.

Al Jazeera has also granted Virgin Media digital rights to its content for Virgin’s TV Anywhere service, which will see the channels distributed via online, mobile and via tablets.

Peter Chapman, associate director of content acquisition at Virgin Media said: “We’re constantly looking to broaden our programming range with quality channels such as Al Jazeera’s and we’re pleased to announce the arrival of both to our TV service. Working in close partnership with Al Jazeera reaffirms our commitment to strengthen our line-up of international channels now and in the future.”
